On 23 September OpenAI introduced GPT-6 Sol and Luna as faster, more affordable counterparts to GPT-6 Astra for coding, factuality, computer use and professional tasks. Ben's Bites (24 September) reported both available in Codex and ChatGPT Work first, with token prices about 50% below prior equivalents: roughly $0.10/$0.50 for Luna and $2/$10 for Sol per million input/output tokens, with only a minor intelligence step versus prior mid-tiers.
What matters for creatives is session economics. Long design-and-build loops become cheaper to leave running. The craft risk is mistaking cheaper for better: peer makers the same week still preferred Opus 5.5 for writing and judgement-heavy work.
