Arts & Sciences comedy director Matt Lenski's short "The Last Commercial" imagines advertising's last human-made spot, then makes the film with the same tools the industry fears. Banquet VFX built photoreal storyboards; Lenski shot real actors performing the scenes; in post those performances drove AI-generated characters, with heavy compositing and human labour throughout.
He names the default look he refuses: "Beep Boop Cinema" - sweeping moves, perfect compositions, audiobook dialogue. A lot of the directing was steering the models back toward handheld, awkward pauses and timing that come from the performance edit first. One fully live-action shot stays when the actor nails the take. The irony is the point: use AI to ask what happens if this goes too far, while keeping people at the centre of humour and collaboration.
